First decision – Central, Regional or Hybrid?
To figure out what is the best way to structure your team, you need to evaluate the pros and cons of each of these structures:
- Centralized repository of knowledge
- More efficient knowledge sharing among team members
- Better workload balancing across team members
- No regional visibility into useful knowledge
- No regional expertise
- Knowledge gets propagated deeper in the organization
- Local teams have better understanding of business and process nuances
- Hiring advanced analytics professionals may be challenging in some regions
- Workload may get intense due to limited regional headcount
Hybrid- Best of both worlds
Large firms have the luxury to create hybrid models in which there can be a small central group that supports the regions and business units. The expertise of central group is leveraged for more challenging assignments and also helps facilitate knowledge sharing within the organization.
